September 27, 2004. With the installation of the fifth and final tower section having been completed on Sunday afternoon, the assembly team has now begun installing the 18-meter-long, six-meter-wide and six-meter-high nacelle on the tower. The nacelle is being assembled in several sections. First of all the lower part of the nacelle was installed on the tower yesterday with the motor support, part of the cladding and a large part of the cabling.
Today this was followed by the drive train – the mechanical core of the turbine – with a rotor shaft supported on two bearings, rotor locking brake and gearbox. In further stages the generator, transformer, deck crane and the upper part of the nacelle cladding will be assembled at a height of 120 meters.
Weather permitting, the nacelle shall be completed by the middle of this week. A 20-member team from REpower, supported by crane specialists, is being deployed to erect the prototype of the REpower 5M in Brunsbüttel.
