REpower has been appointed to deliver its largest on shore wind farm to date, a 954 MW development of five projects in the Canadian province of Quebec.
The sites will be developed by Saint-Laurent Energies, a Montreal-based consortium which has chosen REpower as the turbine supplier.
The contract guarantees a minimum purchase capacity of 748 MW but if the contract proceeds to its full order as expected, 477 REpower MM82/92 wind turbines will be installed between 2011 and 2015.
Per Hornung Pedersen, CEO of REpower Systems AG, commented;
"The contract is a giant leap forward for REpower towards our establishment in Canada, and bolsters our intention of further growth in the whole of North America Canada and the USA."
The tender was issued by Hydro Quebec Distribution and the successful consortium is jointly owned by EEN Canada Inc, RES Canada Inc and Hydromega Services Inc.
According to the Canadian Wind Energy Association Web site, 2009 will be a record year for wind energy development in Canada with new installed capacity totalling 790 MW. By December, Canada will have 3,159 MW of installed capacity with wind power projects in every province.
